Yinson Production Ghana has recently established a computer laboratory at the Agona Nkwanta Girls Model School in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region. Aligned with Yinson’s mission to promote gender equality and its commitment to quality education, this initiative marks Yinson’s third contribution of its kind to the municipality, reflecting its vision to extend the benefits of technology and education across the region. In 2020, Yinson Production Ghana provided an Information Community Technology (“ICT”) Centre at the Kejabil Municipal Assembly (“M/A”) Junior High School (JHS), while in 2023, a new computer lab was commissioned in the Arthur Fischer Catholic Basic School in Apowa.
The computer lab, which was built from scratch, is equipped with essential amenities, including 20 desktop computers, desks, chairs, a projector, and a projector screen. Furthermore, Yinson is covering one year of internet subscription. The laboratory benefits approximately 200 girls within the school and an additional 1,500 students, both male and female, from neighbouring schools.
In addition to providing physical infrastructure, Yinson will organise quarterly ICT lessons for teachers within the community. These sessions aim to enhance the ICT proficiency of educators, enabling them to effectively impart knowledge to students.
During the official handover ceremony of the computer laboratory, Edward Mensah, the Corporate Social Responsibility Coordinator at Yinson Ghana, emphasised the company’s unwavering dedication to education and empowerment. Madam Hannah Bessah, Headmistress of the Agona M/A Cluster of Schools, expressed heartfelt appreciation to Yinson Production Ghana for making ICT resources accessible to the schools.
John Agyare, Chief Executive Officer of Ahanta West Municipality, commended Yinson Production Ghana for its continuous support in the area, saying “This computer lab is a key step forward to bridge the educational gap in the region through technological empowerment. I would like to urge all students to utilise the lab to its fullest for educational purposes.”
Nana Sekyiwa Darko, Head of Community Relations at the Petroleum Commission (PC), underscored the significance of ICT skills in today’s workforce and emphasised the importance of promoting digital education for national development. She challenged students, especially girls, to excel in their ICT studies and called for collaborative efforts from parents and teachers.
Nana Ezieku IV, Chief of Agona and Acting President of the Ahanta Traditional Council, said, “I commend Yinson Production Ghana for its contribution to educational infrastructure and urge parents to actively participate in their children’s education to ensure a brighter and better future for all.”
Thus far, Yinson Production Ghana has completed initiatives such as providing ICT training to teachers, donated laptops to ICT teachers, and an ICT centre for its host communities since 2020.
