Yinson Ghana has commissioned a new computer lab to facilitate the learning of Information Communication Technology (“ICT”) in the Artedur Fischer Catholic Basic School in Apowa, near Takoradi.

The lab is fully furnished with 30 desktop computers and accessories, a server, a projector, a printer, and a remote-controlled automated electric projector screen. Yinson also provided a one-year prepaid internet service in addition to the computers and accessories. The lab will train approximately 3,000 primary and secondary students from the school, which is situated about 3km away from Yinson’s operations office in Takoradi.

The computer lab was officially opened at a ceremony on 28 April 28, 2023, and was attended by the Municipal Chief Executive of Ahanta West, Mr John Agyare, Municipal Director of Education, Mr George Effah, Queen Mother of Apowa, Nana Foluba II, Chief of Kejebril, Nana Anghamatsia VI, Yinson’s Managing Director, Mrs Naa Opoku-Agyeman and Yinson’s CSR coordinator, Mr Edward Mensah, among others.

Mr Agyare recognised the Yinson’s support and complimented the various parties’ efforts in promoting the delivery of quality education delivery in that area. He implored the school to take good care of the computer lab.

Mr Effah thanked Yinson for their various contributions over the years and for bringing ICT closer to the youth in the municipality, saying, “The computer lab will bring great education value to the community. We thank Yinson for the good they have done for our children.”

Mrs Opoku-Agyeman said that the initiative aligned with Yinson’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4, Quality Education (SDG 4). She commented, “Education is a fundamental tool for human development and continues to be a strong priority in Yinson’s Corporate Social Responsibility efforts. Young people form a critical workforce for the future development of the country and must be equipped with modern technological tools to become more resourceful.”

Mr Mensah commented, “ICT skills are increasingly important in modern society, and our children need to have these skills to do well in their studies and be ready to enter the working world. Yinson aims to support and promote STEM studies by equipping students at the Ahanta West Municipality with the necessary tools.”

This is the second Computer Lab that Yinson has provided in the Ahanta Municipality, with the first ICT Centre commissioned in 2020 at the Kejabil Municipal Assembly Junior High School. Yinson also holds a bimonthly ICT class that teaches 14 ICT teachers in the municipality.
