Yinson Production Ghana, in collaboration with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the Petroleum Commission of Ghana, has commissioned the Net-Zero Carbon Emissions Lab (NCEL), Ghana’s first specialised facility dedicated to scientific carbon measurement, emissions modelling, decarbonisation research, and industry-focused training.

Located at KNUST’s College of Engineering, the lab forms part of the Net-Zero Carbon Emissions Project (NCEP), a five-year research and development partnership signed in 12 June 2025. The project aims to harmonise Ghana’s greenhouse gas emissions data into a single interactive national map and conduct a comprehensive carbon-intensity assessment of the oil and gas sector.

Yinson Production Ghana funded the establishment of the facility with an investment of approximately US$350,000. The NCEL is designed as a dual-purpose facility, serving as both a research hub and an industry training centre, while supporting emerging technologies such as carbon capture, utilisation and storage.

The lab is equipped with high-performance computing for advanced analytics and simulations, modern research workstations, smart presentation systems, and energy-efficient infrastructure. It is structured to be self-sustaining through professional training, advisory services, and specialised carbon-related services, aligned with Ghana’s Green Finance Taxonomy and regional carbon market frameworks.

The initiative reflects a shared commitment between industry, academia, and regulators to strengthen national climate data, support evidence-based policy, and build long-term capacity for Ghana’s energy transition.
