Yinson’s project team for FPSO Abigail-Joseph partnered up with Garden City Fund (GCF) in Singapore to cultivate their green fingers by planting 35 new trees as part of the organisation’s Plant-A-Tree Programme.

Managed by GCF, a registered charity who runs various conservation, research, outreach and education initiatives in Singapore, the Plant-A-Tree Programme is a platform for organisations and individuals to do their part in greening the city by planting trees.

Yinson’s participation in the Plant-A-Tree Programme saw a total of 61 individuals, consisting of 36 Yinsonites and their family members gathering together at Dairy Farm Nature Park, Singapore to plant six different types of trees including the Sparrow’s Mango, Tampines, Kayu ArangKembang Semangkuk JantungSalam, and Stink Bean trees.

A grown tree, when matured, consumes about 48 pounds of carbon dioxide per year and releases enough oxygen for everyone to breathe for approximately 2 years. Therefore, having planted 35 new trees of various species meant that these trees will one day consume about 1,680 pounds of carbon dioxide per year and contribute to approximately 70 years worth of oxygen.

According to FPSO Abigail-Joseph Project Manager David Hamilton, “When we first started exploring team building ideas for the FPSO Abigail-Joseph project team, we looked at our core values and our HSEQ (i.e. Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality) model and jointly agreed that tree planting would be a small but significant first step towards giving back to Mother Nature.”

“And by involving our family members in this activity, not only do we get to have some quality bonding time together, but we get to teach our children the importance of conserving our green ecosystems as well, so that when they grow up, they too can do their part to carry on this green legacy.” He said.

Although it was tiring work, at the end of event, everyone was happy and inspired to be able to exercise their green fingers and plant so many trees to help make the world a greener, more beautiful place.

In addition to taking part in this Plant-A-Tree Programme, the FPSO Abigail-Joseph project team members has undertaken several other green initiatives to reduce carbon footprint including making the conscious choice to opt for public transport instead of driving to work, and setting up Skype meetings over the internet instead of flying back and forth in between Yinson’s different offices across the globe.
