Yinson Ghana has renovated a classroom block and collaborated with the Ghana Library Authority to provide a library for its host communities at the Kejebril Basic Schools. The block, which is located near Yinson’s operations base in the Western Region, will serve around 2,000 students in Kejebril and surrounding communities.
Yinson undertook the renovation of the 4-unit classroom block with guidance from the Kejebril community leaders led by Nana Anghamatsea (VI) Chief of Kejebril, achieving completion in about 3 months.
Prior to this renovation, the block had not undergone any refurbishments since being built about 30 years ago. As a result of the dilapidated condition of the roof and building structure, the teaching and learning environment was not conducive, particularly during the rainy season and warm afternoons. In addition, the deteriorated roof posed a potential hazard to the students.
The facility, named Yinson Block, was inaugurated in a ceremony on 17 November 2021. In attendance were the Chief of Kejebril, Nana Anghamatsea VI; Queen Mother of Kejebril, Nana Baahemaa Nyaama III, Senior Officer Petroleum Commission, Mr Eric Kwesi Essel, who represented the Western Regional Director of the Petroleum Commission; Headmistress of Kejebril School, Mrs Sarah Danso-Dick; Assembly Member of Kejebril, Timothy Ampem; Yinson Ghana Finance Manager, Mr Anthony Attu; Regional Director of the Ghana Library Authority, Mr Philip Asamoah; Yinson Ghana Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Coordinator, Edward Mensah, and representative of the Ahanta West Municipal Director of Education, Miss Edith Hagan among others.
Yinson Ghana CSR Coordinator Edward said, “In line with Yinson’s commitment to quality education, we hope the classroom and library, together with ongoing literacy programmes, will encourage a love for learning in the community. Yinson will continue to invest into the library by developing new programmes.‘’ He added that to encourage the students in the community to use the library, Yinson will sponsor the first 100 student registrations.
The Chief of Kejebril Nana Anghamatsea (VI), who was also the chairman of the ceremony, expressed his thanks to Yinson Ghana for its commitment to the development of the community especially in the education of community members. He called on the teachers and students to keep the library and the renovated block in good shape at all times.
