On 10 Aug 2026, Yinson Production’s FPSO Helang team in Miri headed underwater alongside Miri Divers and the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) for a targeted ghost net retrieval dive at Batu Belais.

During the joint operation, the team successfully cleared approximately 70 kg of abandoned commercial fishing nets from the seabed, helping to protect local coral reefs and marine habitats.

Addressing Marine Hazards Through Collaborative Action

Ghost nets which are fishing nets that have been abandoned, lost, or discarded at sea represent a significant hazard to marine ecosystems. Trapped on coral formations, these nets can suffocate reef structures and entangle marine life.

The ghost net retrieval initiative at Batu Belais is part of an ongoing environmental effort that Yinson Production’s Miri team has actively supported since 2020.

By working directly alongside local regulatory bodies and certified divers, the initiative focuses on practical, on-the-ground volunteerism to safeguard coastal biodiversity in the waters off Sarawak.

“Supporting the local coastal environment is an essential part of being an active, responsible member of the Miri community. Preserving these reef ecosystems requires ongoing dedication, and we are grateful to the Sarawak Forestry Corporation and Miri Divers for their continued partnership and expertise in making these underwater recovery efforts safe and impactful.” Joanna Teo, Managing Director, Operation office – Malaysia Miri
