Yinson Production Ghana, in partnership with the Petroleum Commission, Corps Nation, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), commemorated World Environment Day and World Oceans Day with a two-day community outreach programme held on 12 and 13 June 2025 in Takoradi and Dixcove, Western Region.
The initiative, which aligns with Yinson Ghana’s commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility, began with an educational event at Saint Mary’s Boys School. Students were engaged in discussions on the importance of trees in climate change mitigation, biodiversity conservation, and building resilient ecosystems. A total of 119 fruit-bearing seedlings—comprising coconut, mango, and avocado—were planted, providing both ecological and nutritional value to the school community.
On the following day, the celebrations continued at Upper Dixcove with a marine-focused event held under the theme “Wonder: Sustaining What Sustains Us”. The programme included an awareness session on the critical role of oceans and a community-led beach clean-up involving over 100 participants, including school children, fisherfolk, and residents from Upper and Lower Dixcove. The clean-up resulted in the collection of 102kg of plastic waste, primarily PET bottles and water sachets, helping to prevent approximately 296 kg of CO₂ emissions.
To reinforce the message of environmental protection, Yinson, together with its partners, donated four large fish-shaped bins for plastic waste collection. The bins were officially handed over to the community by the Chief Fisherman of Upper Dixcove, who pledged the community’s support in maintaining and using the bins as part of efforts to reduce marine litter.
This collaborative event exemplifies Yinson Ghana’s approach to community engagement and sustainability, fostering environmental awareness and supporting national and global environmental goals.
