Yinson Production Ghana, in collaboration with the Ahanta West Municipal Directorate of Education, hosted its second annual training programme on Period Poverty for over 500 students in the Ahanta West Municipality to mark Global Menstrual Hygiene Day.

This year’s programme, themed, “Together for a period-friendly Ghana,” covered on topics related to menstrual hygiene practices and management, distributed two packs of sanitary pads to the students (an increase over last year’s one pack per student) and stressed the importance of breaking social taboos surrounding menstruation.

Edward Mensah, Corporate Social Responsibility Coordinator of Yinson Production Ghana, emphasised the global nature of period poverty and urged stakeholders to take action. “Women often face discrimination and ill treatment due to this natural biological process. We can break down barriers, empower our girls, and create a more equitable future. Let us be committed and continue to champion the rights and dignity of every woman and girl in our community.”

Ahanta West Municipal Director of Education, George Effah, and Madam Irene Dela Amedekah, highlighted the importance of menstrual health education, access to affordable menstrual products, and dismantling the stigma surrounding menstruation. They mentioned that menstrual hygiene management is not just a health issue but also a matter of dignity, equality, and human rights. Also present to support the programme were representatives of the Ghana Health Service.

The CSR initiative demonstrates Yinson Production’s continuous commitment in Ghana to making a positive impact on the lives of young women in the communities there. Our hope is to alleviate period poverty and empower young Ghanaian women to stay focused on and excel in their education.
