Yinson Production West Africa Limited honours this year’s International Day for Women in Science and Technology by participating in the annual ‘Women in Science and Engineering Forum’ at the Jubilee Technical Training Center of the Takoradi Technical University, Ghana today.
Themed, ‘Science and Engineering: Embracing the Career I Love’, the forum celebrates and honours women in science and engineering roles by giving them a platform to empower and motivate their fellow sisters.
Semiratu Abdallah, who is currently with the Yinson Ghana office as a Process Engineer Trainee participated in the forum as a guest speaker where she talks about her experiences, the challenges she faced and how she overcame them.
Hoping to inspire more women to follow her footsteps and dispel misconceptions about science and engineering fields being male-dominated ones, she also offered words of encouragement and advice on managing work life balance.
“In a career path where women are underrepresented, I believe we have a responsibility to break stereotypes and inspire the next generation of females by empowering them to know that gender should not limit or hinder them from pursuing career paths in STEM related fields and to trust that they are more than capable once they set their minds to it, “ she said.
On that note, male participants of the event were not left out at all because the forum provides an excellent avenue to educate them on the various challenges faced by the women and how they can be part of the solution to an equal playing field within the industry.
The forum is one of the many initiatives organised by the Field Ready® Alliance, aimed at empowering youths in Ghana to make them ‘field ready’ for the future.
