Yinson has completed the installation of 2 sets of 10 KVA Solar Photovoltaic (“PV”) systems at our Port Harcourt Office in Nigeria.
The challenge of erratic power supply had previously led to the office’s dependence on diesel-powered electricity generators. A project team led by Yinson Nigeria Maintenance Engineer, Moses Onyeagba, was tasked to identify, design and implement an alternative power solution to supplement and support our Nigeria operations while reducing reliance on diesel-powered generators.
This installation also echoes Yinson’s core values and climate ambition. Yinson Nigeria Managing Director, Judith Okonta commented “The solar PV project allows us to utilise what is the most abundant energy resource in Nigeria – sunlight to provide for our power needs, all while achieving environmental protection”.
The fully integrated system is designed to work in tandem with power from the National Grid and diesel-powered generators, with automatic generator start-ups, a phase selector and a change-over switch to receive power from the National Grid. The inverter batteries also store and supply clean energy to keep the office electrical system and equipment running during off-hours, while reducing operating costs and environmental impact. Reflecting on the project, Moses Onyeagba commented “Yinson is committed to being a responsible environmental steward. The project can be described as one of Yinson’s outstanding legacies towards achieving a sustainable and eco-friendly future.”
Yinson Nigeria office employees welcome the enhancement to the premise. Yinson Nigeria HR Coordinator, Chinonye Obinna-Aralu echoed the sentiment and said “With this project’s two-pronged advantage of significantly reducing our business carbon footprint and lowering the cost of energy, our commitment to environmental protection is reinforced.”
Based on historical operational data, the solar PV system will help to reduce approximately 22,813 kg CO2e per annum from Yinson Nigeria operations.
